Atteggiamento dovuto in primo luogo al fatto che abbiamo tanti militari impegnati in aree, anche in Libano, dove sono state utilizzate armi all'uranio impoverito, per cui divulgare e far sapere che c'è effettivamente questo rischio, spingerebbe tanti nostri militari, che lo fanno come lavoro temporaneo, a dare le dimissioni.  Contemporaneamente, ci sono altre problematiche connesse alle popolazioni locali, che sono state bombardate dalla NATO e/o dagli USA. Il riconoscimento causa-effetto tra uranio impoverito/metalli pesanti/tumori aprirebbe sicuramente la strada a dei contenziosi internazionali nei confronti degli USA, della NATO e anche della stessa Italia, con conseguenze che si possono immaginare. Quindi capisco che si continui a negare l'esistenza di questa causa-effetto..."

She was the National Outreach Coordinator for the Coalition for a Healthy Environment (CHE), founding Board member for the Alliance of Nuclear Worker Advocacy Groups (ANWAG), and one of nine people from across the United States chosen to serve on the Advisory Committee for the Cold War Patriots (CWP). Mrs. Anderson was in Washington, DC, the day President Clinton signed into law EEOICPA.

DOE staff members who worked frequently with Mrs. Anderson spoke often of her compassion and her focus on others instead of herself. She worked relentlessly to help others receive compensation even while ignoring her potential related medical case.

We will always remember her for the lives she touched and her personal commitment and dedication to the EEOICPA Program. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends.

Alla fine si tratta solo di riscaldare acqua per far girare delle turbine che devono produrre elettricita'. Ma non e' che e' esagerato mettere in moto una reazione nucleare per fare l'acqua calda? E' pericoloso? Conviene  realmente? Si puo' fare diversamente? La Storia comincia nel 1953 e le intenzioni erano ottime: atomi per la pace ? diceva Eisenhower ? sottrarre  l'atomo al controllo militare e usarlo per fare l'elettricita'. Ando' tutto bene per molti anni, poi successe quello che non doveva succedere: gli incidenti. Sellafield, Three Miles Islands, Chernobyl. E fu cosi' che comincio' un lento declino del sistema. Nel 2002 l'ultima punta massima di produzione elettronucleare. Nel mondo i reattori sono 436: 8 in meno rispetto al 2002. Stanno invecchiando e nessuno si affretta a rimpiazzarli. Dal 1979 negli Usa non sono state piu' costruite centrali nucleari. Bush aveva promesso un rilancio dell'elettronucleare ma non se ne fece niente: l'investimento troppo rischioso per le banche e i soldi pubblici in giro ce ne sono pochi per via della crisi. Barak Obama taglia gli incentivi all'atomo e punta su rinnovabili e efficienza energetica. Stessa cosa fa la Germania dove una legge del 2002 stabilisce che non si costruiscono piu' centrali  e i reattori esistenti  man mano che giungono a fine vita si spengono. Intanto pero' si devono ancora fare i conti con le scorie. Di quanto costi poi il nucleare in termini di salute delle persone sembra meglio non parlarne. L'azione dell'Oms e' blindata da un accordo del 1959 con L'AIEA (Organizzazione internazionale per l'energia atomica) che a sua volta dipende  dal Consiglio di sicurezza dell'Onu:  in poche parole quello che sappiamo degli effetti del nucleare sulla nostra salute dipende dagli interessi dell'industria atomica. E la Francia con 58 reattori? Non e' per niente indipendente per quanto riguarda l'energia e i problemi sul territorio sono tanti. Ma l'industria nucleare ? francese, americana ? e' sempre in piedi e preme da tutte le parti per costruire. In Italia si sta parlando di rinascimento nucleare, ci siamo affidati ai francesi perche' ci hanno detto che le loro centrali sono le piu' sicure, e' vero? E poi quando saranno terminate la nostra bolletta elettrica sara' veramente piu' bassa?  (sarebbe bello se ricordassero chi per primo - in Italia - ha denunciato con vigore pubblicamente il papello OMS-nucleare: il sottoscritto, nel 2000)

ACCAME DIFFONDE LETTERA INEDITA A GLADIATORE ARCONTE - ROMA, 21 MAG - Nel gennaio del '91 l'allora direttore del Sismi Silvio Martini sciolse, oltre alla Gladio civile, composta da 622 uomini, anche quella militare che dipendeva dall'ufficio X/o e che era composta dal nucleo 'G'.
Di questo nucleo faceva parte il gladiatore militare Antonino Arconte che ha rivelato l'esistenza di questa struttura parallela composta solo da militari e con compiti operativi e non informativi. Questa struttura, portata all'attenzione del Parlamento dall'ammiraglio Falco Accame, ex presidente della commissione Difesa, non e' mai stata dichiara ufficialmente dal governo italiano. Oggi Accame diffonde la lettera che il direttore del Sismi invio' ad Arconte per annunciargli la chiusura del suo nucleo, composto da militari, in seguito alla decisione del governo di sciogliere Stay Behind.
Accame ha preparato una denuncia su questa struttura, presentata stamani alla procura militare e inviata anche, per conoscenza, all'ex presidente del Consiglio dell'epoca Giulio Andreotti e all'ex capo dello Stato Francesco Cossiga. Nella lettera di Martini, allegata alla denuncia si afferma: 'il servizio segreto la ringrazia di quanto ha fatto negli interessi della patria e le chiede di mantenere, comunque, sui fatti, la massima riservatezza'.
Accame scrive ad Andreotti, che nel 2002 ha presentato una interrogazione sull'argomento, che all'epoca 11 ministeri interessati dichiararono di ignorare l'esistenza di questa Gladio militare, che operava prevalentemente all'estero, e del gladiatore Arconte. 'Cio' nonostante che una delle operazioni cui ha partecipato la Gladio all'estero, e cioe' la destituzione del presidente tunisino Bourkiba, venga trattata anche nel libro dell'ammiraglio Martini, 'nome in codice Ulisse', e nonostante che ne avesse parlato 'Corriere della Sera' nella intervista fatta all'on. Pisanu il 2 aprile del 1997'.

After a congressional committee requested a copy of an unclassified internal State Department report on corruption in the Iraqi government, the Department classified the report and declined to provide it.  But the document is in the public domain and widely accessible. "The State Department initially informed Committee staff that the reports were designated 'sensitive but unclassified',' wrote Rep. Henry Waxman, chair of the House Oversight Committee, in a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. "After receiving the Committee's inquiry, however, the State Department retroactively classified the documents and refused to provide them voluntarily to the Committee." "The Committee subpoenaed the documents last week, but they still have not been provided to the Committee in either classified or unclassified form," Mr. Waxman complained.

The primary document at issue is an assessment of Iraqi corruption that was prepared by the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.  The document was first reported in The Nation magazine last month, and it was published last week on the Federation of American Scientists web site (Secrecy News, 09/19/07).

"If there is widespread corruption within the Maliki government, this is information that both Congress and the public are entitled to know." This is possibly the first comprehensive survey of abnormalities in natural populations and suggests that the elevated mutation rates seen in Chernobyl populations are generating significant numbers of morphological defects.

Antioxidants, Radiation and Mutations:  Investigations of individual birds have revealed that in areas of high contamination, antioxidants (i.e. vitamins A and E, and carotenoids) are depressed.  Depressed antioxidants appear related to increased mutation rates (as has been found in many other species, including humans).  In Chernobyl barn swallows, depressed antioxidants are associated with dramatically increased rates of defects in sperm, a phenomenon linked to depressed fertility in many species.
